‘The Golden Temple’ is a must-visit tourist destination in Bangladesh. The original the original name of this temple is Buddha Dhatu Jadi. Dhatu means residual of holy person. It is also known as Bandarban Golden Temple or simply Shorno Mondir among the visitors. The founder of this great temple is Ven. U Pannya Jota Mahathero.
In local language, the temple is called as Kyang. It is a Theravada Buddhist Temple, that lies amidst the spreading greenery view in the remote Bandarban Hill district. The temple is the most famous for the second largest Buddha statue in Bangladesh. The construction of the Golden Temple was started approximately in 1995 and was complete in 2000.
The Golden Temple is located at pulpara near to Bhalaghata town which is 10 kilometres away from Bandarban city. The temple has two of the highest peaks hills called the ‘Tangoing’s around 4,000 feet or 1,200 meters high and the ‘Keokaradong’ is around 4,632 feet or 1,412 meters high. The peak of the beautiful temple is about 200 feet or 60 meters high. The location of the temple is about 92 kilometres away from the port city Chittagong.
The local people Pulpara, the Marma tribal community, the other sincere devotees and followers of Theravada Buddhism visit this Golden Temple all around the year to worship the great Gautama Buddha.
The tranquil scenario and the peaceful atmosphere attract the visitors all around the world to spend some quality time here in the Golden Temple. Extensive green and thick forest around the temple area enchants the travel lover visitors with the heavenly beauty.
The combination of Arakanese architecture and the South-East Asian style was adopted while building this temple. The architecture represents the ancient religious value of Buddhist community. The temple looks like that it is made of gold for its golden colour. There is also a pond known as the “Debota Pukur” meaning “pond of the God”.
The inartificial beauty of this holy temple becomes mesmerizing on every full moon night when thousands of clay lamps are enlightened. The floor is covered with expensive mosaic. The view from hilly paradise make wonderful feelings for the tourists far away from noise and mechanized earth.
Unfortunately, there is no direct way to go to the temple area. Visitors have to get the track to Bandarban town first. Various bus services as Shamoli Paribahan, Hanif Enterprise, Year-71 etc are available from Fakirapul, Sayedabad, Motijheel, Arambagh, Kamalapur and Kalabagan to reach Bandarban. After reaching there, rickshaw or auto rickshaw, Chander Gari or private car can be hired easily on demand. From Bandarban city, it may take around half an hour to get the destination of temple.
The sunny days, rainy days and the moon-lit-night are the sensational weather to travel at Golden Temple. Besides, tourists gather at the place all over the year to explore the untold beauty of the nature here in Golden Temple.
As the Golden Temple is in a remote area, so there is neither good hotel to stay nor good restaurant to eat quality food. Who are interested to visit in this religious place are advised to book a hotel in Bandarban town before starting the journey via online.
Before leaving to Golden Temple, it is highly recommended to carry some dry foods and bottles of mineral water.
